The Often Overlooked Mushrooms

Edible mushrooms have a long history of culinary and medicinal use in many cultures throughout the world.  Yet, in the United States, they have been and often continue to be overlooked as an excellent source of nutrition and as potential agents of health and natural healing.

Health Benefits

Various mushrooms have been extensively studied for their nutritive and health promoting benefits.  The scientific studies continue but, so far, regular consumption of certain mushrooms has been associated with:

  Boosting the immune system
  Modulating the human gut microbiome
 Reducing the risk for certain cancers
  Lowering cholesterol levels
  Reducing high blood pressure
  Reducing the risk of osteoporosis and joint pain
  Helping to regulate blood sugar levels
 Eradicating certain viruses, pathogenic bacteria and yeasts
 Aiding in weight loss
